Build a Story in Clay—From Expressive Faces to Living Forms
Jane's Art Center is thrilled to join the Museum of Art, DeLand in presenting a workshop with Taylor Robenalt. Join us for a creative journey in crafting small sculptures that delves into your personal narrative, incorporating elements of faces, flora, and fauna!
Under the guidance of skilled artisan Taylor Robenalt, participants in this workshop will explore various hand-building techniques such as coil, pinch, and slab. The primary focus will be on sculpting features, small creatures, and plant life, each telling a unique story related to memory, love, grief, or any desired emotion.
Our first step will be constructing a base, either in the form of a head or an animal, from which we will develop our narrative. Throughout the workshop, we'll engage in discussions on crafting creatures from pinch pots, sculpting flowers from small slabs, and the general assembly of the piece.
Each day will commence with a demonstration by Taylor, offering valuable information about studio practices and construction tips as she constructs a sculpture. In the afternoons, Taylor will be on hand to assist students, guiding them through their own concepts and creations, ensuring a supportive and enriching learning experience.
Enrollment in this workshop includes a 25 pound bag of b-mix with grog clay. It also includes a complimentary ticket to visit the Museum of Art, DeLand to see Taylor's work on exhibition from April 11 to June 7. Please show your workshop receipt for exhibition entrance.
Prior experience: Students should be comfortable with the pinch, coil and slab construction methods of working.
Students will receive an email with the schedule and recommended tools.
